What is the difference between SSH and ILBC?

Assisted living is offered through the Independent Living BC  (ILBC) program and is a middle option between home support and residential care. It includes self-contained apartments where residents receive hospitality services such as meals, housekeeping, laundry, and personal care services such as assistance with daily living activities (i.e., mobility and medications support).  All residents also have access to a 24-hour response system as well as social and recreational opportunities.  All of the previously mentioned services are required for assisted living. There is also a more formalized relationship with the health authorities as residents are assessed by a case manager before being accepted into the ILBC program.

Supportive living is offered through the Seniors' Supportive Housing (SSH) program and falls between supported and assisted living. The Seniors' Supportive Housing program offers a combination of the services listed above, but not all of them. There is also a less formal relationship with the health authority.  Residents in assisted living tend to require a more permanent level of support that exceeds the services available through the Seniors' Supportive Housing program.
