Do we have to house someone who is a known criminal, but comes out at the top of the point scoring?

You must ensure that any policies excluding people from being housed are not discriminatory or contravene the Human Rights Code.

When people complete a sentence for a criminal activity, the debt to society has been paid and the activity cannot be held against them.

If you develop a policy on housing or refusing applicants with criminal records, check with BC Housing and human rights staff first to ensure it does not contravene the Human Rights Code.
