Official Nanaimo MOU infrastructure funding announcement of $14.95 million for two new supportive housing developments. A 10th Street site will be managed by the Tillicum Lelum Aboriginal Friendship Centre and BC Housing is in the process of finding a non-profit operator for a Wesley Road site. The 50 additional units will address the unique needs of homeless people in Nanaimo and help them gain skills to build a good life for themselves. Official Campbell River MOU infrastructure funding announcement of $7.3 million for 24 units of supportive housing for adults with developmental disabilities to be managed by the Campbell River and District Association for Community Living. Minister Rich Coleman, who officiated, also announced $14 million in provincial funding for renovations at four elementary schools in Campbell River and three HEF grants that will increase supportive housing in the region. Official Groundbreaking for two new supportive housing developments

Official groundbreaking for two new supportive housing developments. The first site, at 525 Ellice St., officially broke ground today and is estimated to have a total capital cost of $16.1 million. It will provide 83 shelter beds, 20 extreme weather response beds, 23 transitional housing units and two emergency family shelter units and will integrate support services with housing to help people move beyond temporary shelter to more secure housing, greater self-reliance and appropriate employment. The building has been designed to allow the future conversion of shelter rooms into more permanent housing.
