Partners work with BC Housing to promote the Rental
Assistance Program to their staff, volunteers and clients. The
testimonials below have been submitted from five of the major
organizations in the Rental Assistance community partnership
program as part of a current media sponsored supplement in the
Vancouver Sun and Province newspapers November 17-21, 2008:
Family Services of Greater
Vancouver
“When we connect a family to the Rental Assistance
Program, we help them get one step closer to being ready to deal
with the root causes of their emotional issues at an early
stage,” said Teri Nicholas, Executive Director, Family
Services of Greater Vancouver.
The Greater Vancouver Food
Bank
“Our mission is to provide food and related assistance
to those in need; it’s important for us to look at the
larger picture and examine what factors contribute to
hunger,” said Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society
(GVFBS) Chief Executive Officer Cheryl Prepchuk. “The
need for safe, affordable housing is among a number of key
variables required by people who are in food lines. By telling our
clients about the Rental Assistance Program, we can help them in
more ways than simply feeding them.”
S.U.C.C.E.S.S
“At S.U.C.C.E.S.S., our mission is to help new
Canadians integrate into our multicultural society,”
said Chief Executive Officer Tung Chan. “Next to
learning English and finding a job, housing is a key factor in
ensuring that newcomers settle in well. We have a very tight
housing market and it’s important that new Canadians
understand what housing services are available, which is why
we’re partnering with BC Housing to promote its Rental
Assistance Program for low-income working families.”
The Salvation Army
“People come to The Salvation Army for many reasons and
we want to be able to help them as much as possible,”
said Major Brian Venables, Divisional Secretary for Public
Relations & Development. “Affordable housing is a
major concern to many British Columbians and we see the
Province’s Rental Assistance Program as a positive way
to make this more accessible for low-income working
families.”
YWCA
“The YWCA Vancouver is dedicated to improving
the lives of women, with a special focus on supporting single
mothers,” said CEO Janet Austin.
“Affordable housing is fundamental to their success.
The Rental Assistance Program allows them to supplement their
income and thus afford their rent. The program is an important
element in a housing strategy and we are pleased to be partnering
with BC Housing to promote it to our clients.”
