Information for seniors

Seniors may be eligible for subsidized housing through one of the following programs: (Click the links for more information)

  • Independent Living BC : Some seniors need help with daily activities as they age, but do not need 24-hour care. The Independent Living BC program provides private apartments with some support services for people who need some assistance to remain independent. Regional health authorities in BC select residents for this program, and fill out the application forms for these residents.
  • Subsidized housing: In addition to assisted living, seniors can also apply to live in subsidized housing in either public, non-profit or co-operative housing. Tenants pay rent based on the gross income of the household rather than paying at the market rate. Affordable rent is defined as costing no more than 30% of a household's total gross monthly income, subject to a minimum rent that tenants will be asked to pay based on the number of persons living in the home.
